Angeloni's II is celebrating its 17th year
in Atlantic City and is operated by Alan Angeloni. The Angeloni family
has another restaurant, Angeloni's I in Trenton. Angeloni's II has the look and
charm of a European pub. The shelves are adorned with vintage bottles of wine
of all sizes. There are racks of wines everywhere!
Entering the restaurant, we noticed a wire trough
over a doorway and when we looked closely, we realized that it was filled with
thousands of corks from bottles of wine that were served over the years at
Angeloni's. The staff of Angeloni's estimates that it took about 15,000 corks
to fill the trough.
Angeloni's Restaurant is honored by The Wine
Spectator Magazine for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists
in the world, and plaques they were given for the Award of Excellence in 1990,
1991, and 1992, and the "Best Of' Award of Excellence in 1993 to 1997 are
attractively displayed. Their extensive book of wines is filled with wines for
every taste and price.
Their red wines of France include: Pauillac,
Metoc, Margaux, St. Julian, St. Emilion, Pomerol, St. Estèphe, and
Graves. Their Burgandys include: Côte De Nuits and Côte De Beaune.
And they have an extensive variety of Beaujolais/Beaujolais Cru wines and
Rhône.
The red wines of Italy include: Tuscany,
Piedmont, Veneto, Campania, Basilicata, Abruzzi, Emilia-Romagna, Alto-Adige,
and Sicily. Their red wines of California are too numerous to list here.
Their white wines of France include: Côte
De Beaune, Mâonniais, Chablis, St. Véren, Beaujolais, Loire
Valley, Graves, Pauillac, and Sauternes.
Their white wines of Italy include: Alto-Adige,
Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Pidemont, Veneto, Abruzzo, Marches, Umbria, Latium,
Emelia-Romagna, Sicily, and Campania.
Angeloni's also has a wide range of white wines
of California; red wines of Oregon; wines of Germany; wines of Washington;
wines of Chile; wines of Spain; wines of Lebanon; wines of Australia; and wines
of Israel; Blush and Rosé wines; Champagne and California Sparkling
wines.
Angeloni's II has a friendly, nostalgic
atmosphere. There is a bar and two dining rooms. On busy nights, one room is
used as a non-smoking room. Their second dining room is complete with its own
bar and is also used for private parties.
We dined at Angeloni's last Friday night. Fresh
Italian bread and butter was served as soon as we were seated. Our waitress,
Jackie Keller, was very helpful and answered all of our questions about the
menu and desserts. There were two young men who kept our water glasses filled,
refilled our bread basket and removed our dishes after use.
Rachel and Matt ordered the flavorful minestrone
soup. It was almost a meal in itself, complete with spinach, carrots, pasta,
corn, bowtie pasta, beans, celery, tomatoes and carrots in a sweet tomato
broth.
Matt tried one of the specials of the night,
Tri-color Ravioli. It included the white Shrimp Ravioli, pink Lobster Ravioli
and Black Ravioli shells. The raviolis were filled with cheese. A Crab
Rosé sauce topped the entrée. |

Staff Members Jackie Keller
and Tom Guida are two
great reasons to dine at Angeloni's.
A side of Penne pasta with Marinara sauce. A salad with Caesar
dressing complemented her meal.
Rachel ordered Angel Hair pasta with meatballs
and tomato sauce. She also had a Caesar salad with dressing.
I selected the Veal Parmigiana with linguini. It
was artistically displayed with cheese and the red marinara sauce and a garden
salad with my choice of dressing.
The dessert menu included Tiramisu, Banana Cheese
Cake, Pineapple Cheese Cake, Chocolate Layer Cake, Italian Rum Cake, Spumoni
and Tortoni.
We sampled the Banana Cheese Cake which was
topped with pieces of chocolate and whipped cream. The Pineapple Cheese Cake
was generously topped with pieces of pineapple.
There is a separate sports bar which is decorated
with pictures and autographs of the New York Yankees. Baseball greats like
Mickey Mantle, Don Mattingly "The Hit Man," 1985 all MVP and 1984
Baseball Batting Champion. A poster of the 1961 world champion Yankees is
autographed to Alan (Angeloni) by Mickey Mantle. Going back a few more years,
there is a plaque of Yankee Stadium and a picture of the "Bronx
Bombers," including such greats as Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle and Roger
Maris.
"The pride of the Yankees" is a display
of pictures of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
What Yankee tribute would be complete without a
large banner from the New York Yankees, 1996 World Champions!
